The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco operates two distinct institutions: the de Young in Golden Gate Park and the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park. Together, they form San Francisco’s largest public arts institution, relying on a combination of public support and private philanthropy to sustain programming.
The December 9 gala at the Legion of Honor was one of multiple annual fundraising efforts that keep FAMSF operations running. Seasonal galas complement the organization’s flagship Annual Gala, which in April 2025 raised $1.7 million-the highest total in museum history.
The Fundraising Mission
Proceeds from FAMSF events support exhibition programs at both museums and educational programming reaching Bay Area audiences. The organization’s mission centers on connecting visitors with local and global art through inclusive and accessible programs.
Museum fundraising requires consistent cultivation of donor relationships. Galas provide opportunities for trustees and supporters to gather, view exhibitions, and recommit to institutional missions. The December event featured a private preview of “Manet & Morisot,” the critically acclaimed exhibition running through March 2026.
