Hi dolls! It’s the first week of August so that means we get to talk all about what’s currently trending. Since National Lipstick Day just passed, this topic is fitting. Lip products are entering a new era away from the life-suckingly dry liquid lips back to their roots – good ol’ fashioned lipsticks & glosses.
The matte liquid lipstick era seems to be coming to an end as brands begin releasing new & improved lipsticks that DON’T dry out the lips. Because of their creamier formula, lipsticks are almost never drying as they cannot dry down to the fullest unlike liquid lipsticks. Recent months have shown many influencers & consumers alike agreeing that it’s about time to change up the lip game.
Bite Beauty seemed to be at the start the new lipstick fad when they released the reformulated line of their ICONIC Bite lipsticks, renaming them Amuse Bouche. The line of lipsticks are reformulated with natural ingredients that hydrate & protect the lips while still resulting in high pigmentation(not to mention they smell AMAZING as well).
Urban Decay then came out with their large line of Vice lipsticks whose textures ranged from metallic to cream to comfort matte to sheer, all of which were a huge hit.
Jouer Cosmetics followed up with their glossy Lip Toppers, which went viral over the topper named ‘Skinny Dip’.
Buxom has also released their Full-On Lip Polishes(glosses) that are this beautiful concoction of a lipstick, gloss AND plumper as the pigmentation the product gives is insane.
Most recently, the one and only Pat McGrath has jumped on the lipstick train and released 8 matte lipsticks as singles as well as sets of trios.
Becca Cosmetics released their Liquid Crystal Glosses- an ode to their highlights but in lipgloss form.
HUDA Beauty came out with Lip Strobes, similar to Jouer as they are beautiful as a topper or on their own.
Luxury brands are finding the hype as well as Givenchy has released a two-toned lipstick- seemingly reminiscent of the Korean favorite two-tone lip trend.
Thoughts on this trend? Liquid Lipsticks are great because they are for the most part budge-proof, kiss-proof & easy to apply, however they can be very drying & seriously damaging to the skin on and surrounding the lips. Lipsticks however are a bit trickier to apply and most could use some help from their lip liner sidekick, but the formula of most lipsticks(yes, even matte lipsticks) are creamy enough where they will not dry out your lips nearly as much as liquid lips do. This seems to be a bit of a toss up as they both have their own pros and cons.
