Geode Hair

Geode Hair

The Geode design is the vibe! On the runway, street culture, social media, hair color, nails, lips and eyeshadow, you’ll see it everywhere. It’s also on hair accessories—jeweled bobby pins, barrettes and hair ties, and there’s Geode-adorned jewelry—bracelets, rings, and chokers. Even the Wedding industry has been influenced with the Geode pattern—weddingcakes, cupcakes, napkin ring holders and stationary. Glamour magazine states, “Geode hair is the new rainbow shades your about to see.” Elite Daily declares, “Beautiful Geode hair trends is about to rock your Instagram.”

What does Geode (ge-ode) mean? A small recess in a rock lined with beautiful crystals or other minerals. For Geode hair, lips and nails;  the colors are from different shades of color families—bright colors that shout out loud, subdued earth tones, mysterious shades of gray, iridescent and metallic colors.

Geode Method for Hair

To start, Geode hair must be lightened to a blonde stage (balayage or foil method) targeting the areas for your color zone. The pigment combination is your choice—pink, purple, blue, green, orange, rainbow or softer hues are applied in a blending motion.

Your hair is the canvas—the condition of your hair affects the end result of how beautiful your Geode design will be. Lightening your hair will change the texture of it. It’s imperative to use a high, salon-grade, hydrating shampoo, moisturizing conditioner, luxurious mask, and a thermal protector to enhance the integrity of your hair, resulting in long-lasting color.

Note—hair in poor, nasty condition can break off (chemical haircut) during the lightening process. Also, damaged hair does not color well or hold the color. And, it can grab too quickly resulting in uneven coverage. Go to a knowledgeable and well trained colorist who has your back and will take care of your hair, and will not perform a lightening service if it will compromise hair and the end result.

Enjoy studying rocks for inspiration, gather some photos and then show your hair colorist, makeup artist, manicurist, or Wedding planner. Who else thought geology (petrology) was boring in school, hello?! The Geode motif is now the most sought after inspiration for trends in 2017—shimmering shades fading from light to dark or dark to light; depth and color of magnificent crystals from Mother Earth.
